THIS WAS INTERESTING...I WISH I HAD A "BEFORE" SHOT. THINK "SPACE" THEMED WALLPAPER WITH BRIGHT YELLOW TRIM (OF WHICH
WE PAINTED IT A SOFT YELLOW/BEIGE COLOUR (RINGWALD GROUND-FARROW & BALL) FOR A PERIOD OF TIME WHILE WE HAD IT AS A TEMPORARY GUEST ROOM, SO HERE IS OUR "BEFORE".

THIS ROOM IS OUR LITTLE OASIS ON THE THIRD FLOOR OF THE HOUSE. HOWEVER, THE PINK WALLS...NOT SO SOOTHING. I'M HAPPY TO REPORT THAT AFTER A YEAR OF WAKING UP TO THE PEPTO BISMOL PINK, WE PAINTED THE ROOM, RIPPED UP THE BLUE CARPET AND HAD CREAM CARPET PUT DOWN. PHEW! HOWEVER, IT STILL NEEDS LOTS OF LOVE (INCLUDING OUR ENSUITE BATHROOM). HERE ARE A COUPLE SNEAK PEAK PHOTOS BUT WE HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO AND I'LL SHARE IT ALL WITH YOU.

ReplyDeleteYour house is beautiful! Fresh, clean and comfortable came to mind as I browsed your pictures.
ReplyDeleteLove that you chose to paint your trim white. Love & respect old houses (ours was built in 1900) but the dark trim many of them have seems so outdated and dark to me. All your details are great - got some ideas! Looking forward to coming back and visiting. Best of luck with your blog!
I just saw your post on Serenity Now, and started browsing around your site. What a gorgeous home you have. It is so sophisticated, yet so comfortable as well. I love how you are updating your house but keeping the charm that is original to homes of this era. Nice work!
ReplyDeleteAwesome transformations! I LOVE the windows in that guest room, it looks like you get such great light. We did some very similar renovations in our home, including an attic master retreat! I noticed you painted a lot of your doors. I've been toying with painting my doors black, but they are the original oak doors which are beautiful in their own right. I've had clients paint doors, no problem. BUT, I think it's harder painting the doors when they are solid wood and original to an older home.... did you struggle over this or did you just go right ahead and do it?!??!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dawn! I agree, it was tough to put that first coat on the solid wood but the house was so dark with all the wood that we just did it. I feel like it updates the house while keeping the old character at the same time. I say just do it. You'll love it and I love the idea of painting them black. I've thought about doing the French doors black too. Fun!
